Do you support weighted (fair) bill splitting?

Yes. FairSplit supports weighted splits. Equal splits can be unfair when, for example, someone stays for a shorter time or does not drink alcohol. Weighted shares help keep things fair.

How does the bill-splitting calculation work?

FairSplit optimizes payments inside the group. It uses each member’s advances and minimizes the number of transfers while keeping settlements fair and efficient.

Can I change how amounts are rounded in settlements?

You can change this on the group edit page. If nothing is set, small rounding differences (about ¥1) may appear; the default is rounding to 1 yen.

The settlement looks wrong

FairSplit optimizes group-wide balances (net zero across the group). That can differ from the exact history of who lent to whom pairwise.

What exchange rate is used?

Rates are updated once per day at 9:00 a.m. Japan time. When you record an expense in a foreign currency, the latest rate at that time is applied.

I want to mark a settlement as “done”

There is no separate “completed” state, to keep the product simple. If you want to hide items from the settlement view, you can record repayments as expenses instead.

I want to delete a group

Group deletion is not supported. If you created one by mistake, you can leave it unused. There is no limit on how many groups you can create, and group URLs are hard to guess.

Is there a mobile app?

FairSplit is web-only; there is no native app. This avoids asking every friend to install an app. We do not plan a native app at this stage.

I cannot open my group page

Please check the URL is correct, then contact us via the contact form so we can investigate.

How long is my data kept?

We retain data without a fixed end date. If we ever disable inactive groups, we will announce it at least one month ahead on FairSplit and our official X (Twitter) account. We also take regular backups to help recover from failures.
